Expansionist at your service

Before BfA was announced I did make a prediction or two about the coming expansion that turned out to not be wholly accurate.

I might have a clue about coming content for WoW, BfA or later. I discovered something exciting, exotic, thrilling, and colorful. It might not be widescreen but it is Technicolor!

Joking aside, I never considered that some of the aesthetics, even the drama, of fantasy video games could come from old kitschy movies, but I am wondering now. I grew up with many American movies on television, but not this kind. I guess Indiana Jones is a bit of homage to this genre.

“Twice as lovely, twice as exciting!” – that advert exclamation pwns!

    1. Have not seen the Artist. I’ll check it out.

Yes it was simpler. Right now I am watching Secret Agent Carter on Netfliks. A Marvel comic happening in the late 40s, the starting of Cold War. It is a lot of cliché, the Russians are evil (the Stalin Soviet Empire was very evil) while the US is pictured as quite clean (which it was not). But it is sort of cartoonish (reminds me a bit of Dick Tracy) and just very entertaining and with good characters. It also have strong female characters without giving the feeling they have been put in by quota. And it avoids the modern cliché of nudity and sex, which usually is just boring and filling out air time.

      1. Oh, it’s such a fantastic movie, I hope you like it 🙂

Oh, put in by quota – didn’t know that expression. As if they are forced in, like today? Yes, that is just sad and disrupting for the story telling when they do that.

Oh, I know! I find it a huge shame, how nudity and violence today has to be so much “up in our face”. Leave something for the imagination, darnit.
