I am probably a player that does not notice things very much.
Take amber eyes among night elves. Illidan Stormrage was born with it (shown in cinematic in Val’Sharah quest chain). His brother Malfurion not. Ill and Mal, sounds like two bad boys, if you ask me! Malfurion could be Goodidan. Queen Aszhara also had (has?) golden eyes. The usual story is that it is a sign of greatness, and/or acquiring that color when becoming an accomplished druid. Originally, only males could be druids, while nelf women kick ass as warriors. Which they still do. So it is the silvery hard steel vs. the amberish sleeping treehuggers. At least in lore!
I haven’t given this amber eye phenomenon much thought. But when questing in Feralas on an alt I noticed this lowly night elf have amber eyes.
He is in Feathermoon Stronghold, ruled by the mighty Shandris Feathermoon, General of the Sentinel Army. Her wowhead page have some interesting comments, including that she can do massive damage with aoe moonfire! She seems like a mixed class. With silver eyes, I presume.
I took a screenshot of Faralorn as I thought this might be a new development since Legion, or maybe since Cataclysm? Or does this guy have a special story? I have not levelled an alt since … uhm… before Cata? But I have recently, including a horde one. So why has this lowly guy amber eyes?? He looks very tired, maybe he just woke from the dreaming? I tried to find some info about it, and it seems that all male nelfs have amber eyes! I took a quick ride around Darnassus and all males have amber eyes, while the nelf ladies have silvery eyes.
Has it always been like this?? Granted I have not really played male nelfs, but holy macaroni how on earth have I not noticed this before? I am not color blind.
Welcome to the blog where some dude discovers stuff everybody else already knows! At least it makes the reader feel smart.
I wonder if there is any male night elf with surname Bernstein? That would fit.
Over and out.
